                                                  THE GIVER BY LOIS LOWRY

I have seen this book staring back at me for years from library shelves ,bookstores and  online I use the term staring at me for a book because there are multiple books I will always see over and over again that I either get too busy to read or they just don't catch my interest enough . I am sad that I let myself wait this long to read this book .

What this book is about :The Giver is about a boy name Jonas who lives in a community with others like him they all follow rules set by the elders in this community. If you break these rules you are sent away released and never heard from again. Each age group has a function and things they are to do at every age .Everything functions smoothly in this community no one questions anything and everyone is happy your spouse and job you will work for the rest of your life is also selected for you by the elders its just how its always been .There are ceremonies for each right of passage ,the ceremonie where the elders choose the job you will have is the day that changed everything for Jonas he was  always content to follow the rules not have to worry or think about choosing this or choosing that. When Jonas is chosen its not for the job that he thinks soon he will learn much about the world has it has been how it used to be and the choices the elders have made and he will have to make a choice .This choice doesn't just affect him it affects everyone around him and those to come after him.

What I liked :
This book gave me mystery and suspense without even trying I loved that the most I think it held a creeping foreboding feeling that something was about to happen but you didn't know what .I would compare that feeling most to when you start to fall asleep in a bathtub you know its dangerous you might not wake up in time but you start to fall asleep anyway as the warm water soothes you. This book gave me the satisfaction as well that there was no real villain to hate ,most of the time I spend my energy when I read looking for the person responsible to put anger towards but this time it was more of humanity that was the villain .I thoroughly enjoyed this book

I was going to put effort into this part of the review and say what I didn't like but I really cant say I didn't like anything I thought at first the ending but the more I sat and thought about it I liked the ending and I like books that make me sit and digest after the ones that you cant just pick up another book two minutes later and forget about .This book did that for me it didn't give me a huge book hangover but it made me think and ponder for a while and I liked that .I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did and if it has been staring at you for a while pick it up and read you wont be disappointed .
